Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope all of you spend time with your families and have a great time. But I think the most important part is that we need to be reminded of what Christmas is all about! Jesus. That's the whole reason for the season! We need to celebrate the fact that Jesus was born! Without him this world would be in chaos! Merry Christmas!!!

Oops. (Christmas Unicorn)

So apparently I forgot how long ago I wrote. I kept assuming I had written like a week ago. Well that week turned into two weeks which turned into three which turned into 4, so sorry!

OK, so now on to topic. I think a great song is Christmas Unicorn by Sufjan Stevens. It's about the commercialization of Christmas, and the fact that Christ isn't really in Christmas anymore. So go take a second (actually 12 minutes) and listen, "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_cPQn6vOdo"

Will Reagan is a cool dude.

So, last night I has this awesome worship night and it was uber cool. Anyway I heard this song and it went, "I will climb this mountain/with my hands wide open./ I will lean not on my own understand" The song is called Nothing I Hold On Too. At first since I didn't know it I did that thing when a worship song is on and you don't know it. I kinda awkwardly read the lines, got a feel for the song and then attempted to join in with everyone else singing. And I did, but by the end of the song I was singing it like I had known it for years. Now that's just one song.  Furthermore, one of my favorite, if not my most favorite worship song of all time Set a Fire is written by him. I love that song. It's so simple, yet so powerful. And then there's through and through, which yet again is simple but powerful. I recommend listening to his version on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Y7h6K13z0I. I think Will Reagan is awesome. But, let me get one thing straight, I'm not worshiping him or his music, I'm worshiping God. His (Reagan) songs are powerful. He is very good at what he does and that is cool.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAnd I was wrong and right.

I said the Seahawks would go on to win 10 straight, and I was wrong. But you know where I was right? I got 200k views. Woot. Ok seriously my writing is way too informal and I am done writing one sentence posts.

I've Been Right so Far...

So far my prediction has been right... Let's see how this plays out, it may be interesting!

In other news,  one of my fantasy has gone from 1-5 to 3-6 which is a definite improvement!!! I would like to thank Ronnie Hillman for that. Wow, off topic,  now I'm just blundering on. Um ok, so clearly not my best example of writing.

Seahawks Will Win 10 Straight

Bold prediction, I know. Last time they did that, they went to the Super Bowl, so I think it would be fitting if they did it again. Of course they lost then but they will win this time. I honestly think the Seahawks have a real chance at winning the Super Bowl again.

Seahawks Overcome Bronco Comeback to win in an Overtime Thriller

Long title, I know. Anyway, this Sunday the Seahawks overcame a surprising Bronco comeback by winning in overtime. I remember at the start of the fourth quarter, it was 5-17, and I had a bad feeling they would fight back and possible beat Seattle. I ignored this feeling and went outside to play some football. I came back and it was 12-17, Kam had just picked off Peyton and the Seahawks looked prime to hold the Broncos to win. Of course they didn't. Peyton beat the odds, and with one minute, he scored. That's when the Seahawks ran down the field and Marshawn just busted through the Bronco defense for a touchdown. Go Hawks!

The Seahawks Start Off Great!

Let's Go Hawks! The Seahawks looked great in their season opener against Green Bay. They won 36-16.  What I like about the Hawks right now (besides the normal stuff) is their humbleness. What do they say after they win? Focus on next week, we still need to improve. The only questionable thing right now is Earl Thomas at PR. But, hey, I said the same thing about Russell Wilson at first so...

GO HAWKS!

Update

Hi everyone. Sorry I haven't posted lately. Similar to last year, I finished my all Nighter and then rested the next day and then flew off to somewhere else. This year after my all Nighter, I flew to the Dominican Republic, and was a short-term missionary there. There I got to share my faith, and work with the local kids. Not only that but durring the trip I went to Haiti and saw a latrine building process. It was amazing to see the joy in their faces. You can help out to: http://www.the900project.org

It was an amazing and eye opening week. Probably the literal best week of my life. Also, I learned how much Spanish I do and don't know, :).

Ranking the Best Song on Babel

A while ago, I was surfing the web for a ranking of the song on Babel. There was no such thing, so I thought, why not create one? So here it goes... I guess

1. Hopeless Wanderer
Before you say anything, haha no. Hopeless Wanderer is the best Mumford and Sons song ever. Every time I listen, it gives me goosebumps. It's a fantastic song, that is known as the banjo song to my brothers. This song is the perfect combination of a sad love song (Reminder) to a upbeat folk tune (I Will Wait).

'Do not tell me all is fine! When I lose my head I lose my spine.'
Just reading that gives me chills.

2. Ghosts That We Knew
If Hopeless Wanderer didn't exist, this song would be my favorite. I love it. Not only does have a catchy tune, it has wonderful lyricist-ness. (For the record, this one gives me goosebumps too_

'SO GIVE ME HOPE IN THE DARKNESS- THAT I WILL SEE THE LIGHT!'

3. Reminder
Hey! Do you wanna cry? Listen to this song. This is a sorrow full love note the Marcus Mumford has put to music. Before I bought the full album, I bought Ghost That We Knew, Lover's Eyes, and Lover of the Light to join Hopeless Wanderer; I was hesitant at first to buy this song because it was so short (2 minutes) but let me tell you, this song is well worth the 1.29.

'Constant reminder of where I can find her the light that might give up the way'

4. Lover of the Light
Similar to Hopeless Wanderer, this is a sad song for the first little bit, until it picks up turns into one of the best Mumford and Sons songs. Maybe it's because I can imagine very vivid memories because of this song (and a few others on this list) but I really enjoy this song.

'So watch me as I glide, before I tumble'

5. Lover's Eyes
In all honesty, this song and Lover of the Light are interchangeable. Maybe it's because I used to get them confused, maybe it's because I bought them at the same time, maybe it's because I really like both songs. Whatever

"But do not ask the price I paid,I must live with my quiet rage, Tame the ghosts in my head, That run wild and wish me dead. Should you shake my ash to the wind. Lord, forget all of my sins.

6.  The Boxer [Bonus Track]
This song. Even though it's a cover, I still love it! It's so catchy and me being a musician, of course my favorite part isn't a lyric, it's a note. Yes a note. (Although, the part "Lie/La 40x)" is a good second). I always find myself singing along to this song.

7. I Will Wait
You know, I really don't like this song as much as other people do. It never really clicked for me. I mean I like it, but I don't like it as much as say, any of the songs above. But none the less, still a great song.

'I will wait, I will wait for you'

8. Babel
I like this song, it was one of those songs, I thought I wouldn't like, but did. It's kind of like I Will Wait in that it's all action and no sadness, but yet it's said and action, thus it's a hybrid.
'I cry Babel! Babel! Look at me now
Then the walls of my town, they come crumbling down'

9. Below My Feet
Honestly, I didn't like this song at first. I thought it was too slow, and I didn't like that but I ignore that now and I really like this song. (Mainly because it is so catchy.

10. Holland Road
This song and Babel are very similar in that I didn't think I would like it, but I did. I love the lyrics.

'To your callous mind, and from your corner you rose. To cut me down, you cut me down'

11. Where Are You Now [Bonus Track]
The chorus is catchy, the rest, not so much. But then again I like the song the chorus a lot so...

'Where are you now? Where are you now?

12. Not With Haste
This song is pretty cool in that is was covered by Birdie in the end credits of the Pixar movie Brave. I didn't know that (or rather realize it) until I saw Brave a few months ago after I had already heard Not With Haste. I remember it was weird, I was singing along to the credits and I didn't know where I knew the song from. Also it is very catchy.

'We will run and play, you will dance with me, They'll fulfill our dreams and we'll be free'

13. Whispers in the Dark
Sadly this song isn't higher on this list, don't get me wrong, it's a great song but it's not as good as the ones above.

'Whispers in the dark. Steal a kiss and you'll break your heart
14. Broken Crown
Great song, bad lyrics.

'I'll never be your broken one'
15. For Those Below [Bonus Track]
I don't like this song. To me, it doesn't sound Mumford and Sons-ish at all.

'For those below'

Miguel Cabrera makes a lot.

(This isn't my exciting post I was talking about -- I forgot what it was)

Anyway, I don't follow baseball that much, I just occasionally catch a news article or two about the MLB every so often, or I catch a Mariners game on TV when I have nothing else to do. So. Miguel Cabrera makes 29 million a year. 29 million. That calculates to:
-2,416,667 dollars a month.
-80,555 dollars a day (averaging days per month as 30)
-3,356 dollars per hour
-55 dollars a minute, and finally,
- 1 dollar a second.

Wow. That is a lot of money. He could buy 67  xbox game he wants every minute for an hour.... He makes 30k more than the average american income, in one day.

Top 15 Christian Worship Songs since 2000.

Honorable Mentions:

1. Oceans - Hillsong United

"Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders,
let me walk upon the waters,
wherever you will call me."

I love this song. The lyrics are phenomenal. This would have been on the list, but I ran out of room.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dy9nwe9_xzw

2. Build Your Kingdom Here - Rend Collective Experiment

"Build Your kingdom here.
Let the darkness fear."

I also love this song. It probably would be in the top 5 or 10, but it's not really a worship song. This song has an upbeat rhythm and Mumford & Sons sound.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwrszezKFEc

3. Rhythm of Grace - Hillsong United

"There's none beside You God"

I've known this song for a few months ago, but I just found out what it was called a few days ago. I love this song because you can shout it out, all that emotion in your words. But, similar to Oceans, I ran out of room.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8EoFESw4iY

4. Cornerstone - Hillsong Live

"Christ alone; cornerstone
Weak made strong; in the Saviour's love"

I'm surprised that I didn't put this on the list higher. I really enjoy this song and always find myself singing it at random moments.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvLxZEU02uI

5. All Consuming Fire - Melissa How and Jesus Culture

"All consuming fire, you're our hearts desire,
Living flame of love, come baptize us, come baptize us"

This song is great. That's all that needs to be said.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beWTuiQiK1E

Top 15

15. Sweetly Broken - Jeremy Riddle

"At the cross, You beckon me
You draw me gently to my knees
And I am lost for words, so lost in love
Im sweetly broken, wholly surrendered"

I first heard this song on a missions trip, and was surprised it wasn't as popular when I went to go buy it. So much sorrow yet so much happiness in the same song puts this song on the list.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sL-mF_FwPnI

14. Freedom is Here - Hillsong United

"Freedom is here!"

Similar to Rhythm of Grace, it's one of those songs you can shout, with all your heart. It's one of those songs that you don't have to know to sing along. When worshipping the room is full of joy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmignZozEoA

13. Our God - Chris Tomlin

"Our God is greater
Our God is stronger
God, You are higher than any other"

One of the most famous worship songs of all time. This song is iconic of the Christian worship era.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlA5IDnpGhc

12. Cannons - Phil Wickman

Singing, you are holy, great and mighty,

the moon and the stars declare who you are"

When I first heard this song, I didn't think much of it. I thought it wasn't as great as everyone said it was. But after hearing it more often, it quickly became one of my favorites.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSo46FWGh8g

11. Lord I Need You - Matt Maher

"Lord I need you
Oh, I need you
Every hour I need you!"

I love this song. It would be higher, but it's sang in worship as much. This song speaks to me on so many levels. From after I've sinned to when I just want God's presence when I'm worshipping.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuvfMDhTyMA

10. 10,000 Reasons - Matt Redman

"Bless the Lord O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name"

Similar to Cannons, I didn't like this song at first. But after worshipping with it, I quickly began singing it non-stop.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXDGE_lRI0E

9. From the Inside Out - Hillsong United

"My heart and my soul, I give you control,
Consume me from the inside out Lord"

This song probably could have been knocked off this list, as it's older. But that's why I picked it. It's one of the most famous songs to ever be worshiped.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-afZJ9_TIM

8. Scandal of Grace -Hillsong United

"Grace what have you done
Murdered for me on that cross
Accused in absence of wrong
My sin washed away in your blood"

Oh boy, I LOVE THIS SONG. The lyrics are amazing and it's just sooo good. Something about it just makes me love it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cka7fYhWj2E

7.  How He Loves - John Mark McMillan or David Crowder Band

"Oh, how he loves us, so"

This song has been gaining popularity ever since David Crowder Band covered it. The story behind it makes it so much greater. This is one of the first songs I started regularly listening to that was Christian, so it means something to me.

John Mark McMillian - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLvgqqZvLZk

David Crowder Band - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCunuL58odQ

6. Holy Spirit - Bryan and Katie Torwalt

"Holy Spirit, you are welcome here
Come flood this place and feel the atmosphere"

This song. The lyrics. I first heard this song on a mission trip. When I got home, I was overjoyed to find out it was written by one of my favorite artists, Bryan and Katie Torwalt.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcmUYDU-2DY

5. Beautiful Exchange - Hillsong Chapel

"Holy are you God, (holy are you God)
Holy is your name, (holy is your name)
With everything I've got, my heart will sing,
How I love you"

This song I've known for a while and the first time I heard it I fell in love with it. It's amazing in worship. Sometimes I just want to fall on my knees and pray when I worship to it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-bUZj1bkoE

4. Beautiful Things - Grungor

"You make me new, you are making me new"

I have such a weird story about this. I first heard this song at my church, and litteraly all my family members couldn't stop humming it or singing it. Not to mention what a great song it is. Also, it's one of those songs that the chorus is loud and awesome.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1spkhp41ig4

3. Forever Reign - Hillsong Live

"And oh, I'm running to your arms, I'm running to your arms
the riches of your love will never be enough"

I really enjoy this song. When I hear those lyrics above this, I just feel like I'm giving God a big 'ol hug. It's probably one of my favorites of all time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=au3EGgISYMc

2. All the Poor and Powerless - All Sons and Daughters

"Shout it,
Go on and Yell it from the mountains,
Go on and tell it to the masses,
That he is God"

This song. Not only are lyrics amazing, the best part is that It gradually gets louder until you hit that part in chorus. Everyone pauses, and wow. I litteraly sing this song with a smile on my face and happiness sputtering out, and when we hit the chorus I explode in love for God.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6fheuBf0Pk

and finally...

1. Set A Fire - Will Reagan and the United Pursuit

"Set a fire down in my soul,
that I can't contain control"

This song is amazing. This and #2 could easily interchangeable. I almost always feel God's presence when I hear this song and worship too it. When I first heard this song I fell in love with it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0A8almp_nCU

Sadly, a few of my favorite songs didn't make the cut. Hope you enjoyed the list.

Caesar Never Died...

... In Julius Caesar by Shakespeare that is.

*spoiler* (kind of)
In English class we have to right an essay  on the book Julius Caeser. In that essay we have to make a point that can be easily argued both ways. I went all out. I came up with 3 ideas:

1. Julius Caeser was in on his death the whole time.

2. Julius Caesar faked his death. He pulled in Elvis (I'm not saying Elvis is still alive.)

3. Brutus never felt truely guilty.

I picked number 2. Since it was shot down by my teacher, I decided to post about it on here.

So, we needed 3 quotes and what u proves so here it is, and you decide if this is enough proof that Caeser faked his death.

Quote/Reason 1 - Caesar's Ghost
Proves - Explains the sightings of Caesar's ghost, it was really Caesar walking around.

Quote/Reason 2 - The mob of politics surrounded Caesar when they "stabbed" him.
Proves - They easily could have fake stabbed him and add fake blood around him... This explains why there was blood all over them.

Quote/Reason 3 - THEY TOOK THE BODY.
Proves - Why would they take the body? Where would they put it? They took it to make sure no one checked if he was still breathing (he was...)

So does this prove the Caeser faked his death?

Christianity

I don't normally talk about my faith on my blog. I only do when I come back from a missions trip or something of that sort. I never realized the potential this blog has to share my faith. So here it goes I guess.

I'm a Christian. That is a very generalized term though. There are many people who call themselves "Christians".  In other words I accepted Jesus Christ in to my heart as my Lord and Savior. I don't really have one of those amazing stories like, I was addicted to drugs when I crashed into a church and my life changed forever, I started going to that church. But mine is just as cool as I became a brother of all the other Christ followers in the world. I'll share my story.

I grew up in a Christian household, which meant Church every Sunday, youth group ever tuesday or something of that sort. Anyway, I was coming home from my christian pre-school in my dad's car, and we stopped at a red light or we were just about to leave, (I can't remember which). I was about 5 at the time. I asked my dad, "Can I accept Jesus into my heart?" or something along those lines. We went through the process of accepting Jesus and I was reborn, a new person in a sinful world.

Honestly, I would go through the motions of being a Christian, since I still didn't fully understand it yet. I still saw Jesus as my Lord and Savior, but I lead a sinful life because it got me popular. Especially in fourth grade I would swear, I would not listen. I was bad. That would all continue until around sixth grade where I stopped swearing. But, it wouldn't truly stop until I went to my local Christian youth group to get to know people before the Missionary trip I was planing to go on. After that, I began to not go through the motions any more.

What's the point of my story? Much to contrary belief, Christians aren't perfect. We're all sinners, from a top pastor at a church to a serial killer, we all sin. But Jesus wanted to change this, he died for our sins. One of the most famous (and my favorite of all time) verses sums it up pretty well:
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16. If you want to profess your faith and join me and my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, comment below, and I can help you.

Flappy Bird

I hate Flappy Bird... Not really, I just find it annoying. This is mainly because... It's to easy to die.

Double Dare Rigged? - The Inside Job

Hi, as you already know I'm Ethan. I was a contestant on Double Dare. Not the TV Show mind you, rather the live show at the Nick Hotel. As you can see below, I have proof.

Now, not to be too full of myself, I am very good at trivia, not because I know a lot of tidbits (I do), but I am very good at guessing what the correct is. Anyway so they would ask a question and we would get the majority of answers correct, with the occasional wrong answer here and there. We also excelled at all the Double Dare Events. By the end of the game, our team was ahead by a lot! But, the other team got the correct answer to last question because it was their turn. And much to my surprise, (as we were up by over 100 points), they won! So they got to do the special end game while we got pied in the face. So in the end this game was rigged to make the game closer than it should have been, and it was a little too obvious, but I guess not obvious for the crowd.

Have you ever listened to all your music on your iPod and gone down memory lane?

I love too! The only problem is some memories are so strong I can't listen to the song and I'm flooded with memories! Like for example the song Ghosts that We Knew by Mumford and Sons brings back very vivid memories of my trip to visit relatives in Seattle, and Black Ops 2 Zombies! Because of this I end up taking my headphones out because I don't want to cry because I'm missing the old times. Ahhhh, Nostalgia, you strange mysterious beast. Another good example is the song Violin by Amos Lee, throughout the summer I heard this song and had no idea what it was called or who it was by, because I was out swimming listening to Amos Lee Pandora radio station. Ah memories. It's as if songs cling to your memories so you never lose them.

Almost 200,000 views!

The Ethan News has almost hit the big 200k, and we've (or I've, not sure) have been amazed by what has happened with this blog, but then again, 1 million is at this rate 16 years away and the blog will be 20 years old, and by then I'll be over 30! By then who knows, maybe we'll rid the world of the internet or I have just completely forgot about this blog, or maybe this blog hits 1 million views prior to this. Just something to think about.

Quality vs. Quantity

As a blogger with a busy life, I usually find myself ditching quality to write quantity so my viewers will have something to read every week. This is not a good habit as the majority of my post end up being:

Hi.

Few I made it, I thought I was going to break my record!

What I need to do, is leave a 5-10 minute period where I can write a well written article and further my writing career!

4th aniversary!

I cannot believe it's been 4 years! Let's put this in perspective. The Suite Life on Deck was still on air,   the iPhone 4 had just been released, the earthquake in Haiti had only happened 1 year prior, and the 2010 World Cup had happened only 6 months prior! A lot has happened since then. Wow, it has been a pleasure writing this blog for those 4 years!
